Richard Pak (F) Pursuit

A project created over a six years period, Pursuit is the disenchanted chronicle of an idealized America. Being a keen admirer of American literature, cinema and painting, I created my own fancied-America, a not-so-imaginary place filled with fictional heroes and fantasized places. The purpose of this work is to juxtapose a mental construction to the reality of the American everyday life and to picture the “American experience” as a metaphor for a bigger experience. Through this work I mean to suggest rather than describe, translate life’s small dramas into something timeless and universal, aiming to reach beyond the American boundaries. The title echoes the United States Declaration of Independence stating every American’s rights to “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness”. Born in 1972 in Corbeil, France. His series Lolita in Shenzhen depict his interpretation of the ideal woman in the streets of Shenzhen. Like the Winogrand series Woman , he was in search of the unspoiled moments of Chinese Woman, their ideal world, the uncommon unreal. Woman on the streets in street beauty parlours, rushing to go to their job or posing in wedding dresses at the corner of a busy street at rush hour. The beauty of the moment, the pure Photography. This Photographer who is completely unaware of our Photographic past shows us his utopia , in the tradition of the photographers of the fifties. 5th of march - 4th of april AURORE VALADE "Interiors with Figures" Op het eerste zicht lijken de beelden van Aurore Valade overbeladen en kitcherig, door de explosie van kleuren en de enorme diversiteit van de personages. Het thema “interieur met personages” is en thema dat algemeen gekend is in de schilderkunst van de 17de of 19de eeuw . Op zich was het thema nogal bizar, omdat men niet echt wist als de schilder zich meer richtte op het personage of op het interieur. Nemen we bijvoorbeeld de interieurs van Vermeer of Velasquez. Aurore Valade heeft eveneens deze interactie tussen de personages en het interieur willen bestuderen.  Uiteraard is de fotografie het ideale medium om de interieurs en figuren te verbouwen en een nieuwe realiteit samen te stellen. Het is net alsof Aurore Valade ons de enorme rijkdom van de mensheid wil tonen.  Zelfs door de extreme reorganisatie van de beelden lijken ze heel natuurlijk, alsof er in de wanorde een nieuw, natuurlijke orde is geboren. De rariteitskabinetten van Aurore Valade lijken ons aan te kijken en ons tot nieuwe inzichten te willen brengen. Zelfs al lijken de beelden ons op het eerste gezicht als totaal fout of vervormd, toch lijken ze ons bij nader inzien heel natuurlijk en uit het leven gegrepen. 30th of april - 30th of May Thomas Wunsch - ECM COVERS De Duitse fotograaf Thomas Wunsch (Wiesbaden) is zowat de bekendste fotograaf die zijn beelden leent voor de baanbrekende covers van het ECM label van Manfred Eichert. De beelden zijn details van alledaagse voorwerpen , wazige straatbeelden , meestal volledig abstract . In zekere zin tracht Wunsch  het begrijp tijd te vatten in zijn foto’szonder enig aanknopingspunt met de door ons gekende realiteit.   De zwart wit beelden zijn als schetsen uit een strip, die we naast elkaar leggen in willekeurige volgorde, om een verhaal te reconstrueren, een verhaal van een gebeurtenis die voorbij is, maar die we trachten te herinneren. Thomas Wunsch werkt met analoge beelden, die hij vervolgens inscant en daarna digitaal bewerkt . Tot nu toe zijn zijn beelden al gebruikt voor 18 ECM covers.
